The remake of this classic speech-based adventure game retains all the challenge and charm of the original. In Valhalla Classics Episode One: The Crypt, you control a young prince who must solve puzzles and negotiate various obstacles in order to escape the castle. You’ll rapidly figure out how to navigate the maze, examine objects, and pick up keys and potions. The fact that your character gives you talking hints provides extra guidance. The graphics are decent enough, and we thought the music helped to create an atmosphere of suspense. However, the ability to play in full-screen mode would help make the game even more engrossing. While we’re on the subject of configuration, we should note that the game doesn’t really offer any customization options, but the ability to save your quest at any point makes up for the lack of features. Since this game is loads of fun and totally free, we suggest Valhalla Classics Episode One: The Crypt as a good choice for just about anyone looking for a thought-provoking way to kill time.
