Roxio MediaTicker

Editors’ Review

Transform your boring desktop into an RSS feed and photo slide show with this nifty media management tool. Roxio MediaTicker presents a ticker-style bar that can be placed at various positions on your desktop. Vivid thumbnail images and feed links scroll or fade-in (depending on your preference) continuously across the bar.

The great thing about this toolbar is that it can be resized three different ways to suit your tastes, though we found that the smallest thumbnail size impedes your view of the RSS feed links. Even more impressive is that your browser resizes itself so that it doesn’t hide the picture bar. Double-clicking an image instantly pulls the image from the bar, where you have the option of printing, e-mailing, or setting it as a desktop background. Likewise, clicking a feed link took us directly to the corresponding Web site for the full article. We were able to easily figure out how to add our own pictures and feeds, but if you’re still unsure, there’s a helpful how-to link that offers instructions.

There’s not really anything bad we can say about this freebie. Users of all levels will certainly find this a great tool for keeping current with the latest news and pics.
