Free Internet Eraser
Editors’ Review
Effective and easy, Free Internet Eraser gets rid of most of your tracks, though some features are unavailable in the trial version.
The program makes quick work of traces you’ve left in Windows and from the Internet: temporary files, your list of recently used documents, Open/Save history, Internet Explorer cache, and lists of visited sites and typed URLs. Plug-ins to clean up traces left by other applications (ICQ, MSN Messenger) are available in the paid version only. The program can perform automatic cleanup at regular intervals (on every start-up or shutdown, for example, or on a timer).
An average user is unlikely to need permanent deletion algorithms (scrambling filenames or overwriting with random numbers), but then again, only the paranoiacs survive. This free utility’s advanced features disabled unless you pay for the upgrade. However, even hamstrung it offers capabilities sufficient for most active surfers
