EXIF Viewer
EXIF Viewer is a handy tool that lets you view all kinds of information stored in JPEG files you have saved on your computer. Whether you’re interested in information about the image itself or the camera used to take it, you’ll find what you’re looking for through this app’s streamlined interface.
PROS
Straightforward functioning: Once you have the app installed, you’ll have no trouble finding your way around. The main interface offers a few options across the top of the screen, one of which is basically to add a new file. Selecting this will open the Finder for you so you can browse for the image you want, and as soon as you make your selection, all of the available data will be displayed in the app’s main viewing window.
Lots of info: The information this app displays is broken down into four distinct categories. These are File information, which includes entries for Local Path, File Name, and File size; Image Information, which lets you see when the image was created, when it was digitized, and when it was last modified; Camera Information, including the Manufacturer and Model; and Camera Settings, like the F Number, Aperture Value, Exposure, Time, Shutter Speed Value, Focal Length, Exposure Program, and Metering Mode.
CONS
Default to German: When you install the app, it will automatically open in German. You can change this from the Extras menu by choosing Sprache/Language, and then choosing from a list, but there is no way to make this selection during installation to avoid the extra step and possible confusion.
BOTTOM LINE
EXIF Viewer is a convenient option if you often need to access the kind of data it provides for your digital images. It’s free to use without restrictions, and all information is displayed clearly so users of all experience levels can benefit from it.
