Batch File Manager is a feature-rich application that facilitates a wide range of file management options concerning search, rename, copy, move and delete operations. It gives you the possibility to set up automatic tasks for repetitive actions.

Simple setup and overwhelming interface

The setup procedure doesn’t take long and the only notable aspect about it is that you need .NET Framework installed. Alternatively, you can run the tool in portable mode to keep all configuration settings in a single place.

After firing it up for the first time, the main window may seem overwhelming, due to the fact that it integrates numerous elements. Thankfully, Batch File Manager makes sure to clarify the most important aspects, such as how to add files for processing, or how to perform actions.

Discover a variety of file operations

Once you put together a list with pending files, you can explore the wide array of tasks involving search and replace (e.g. replace text or binary data), add content (e.g. insert text at the start or end), delete, move or copy content (e.g. first or last given number of lines), extract data (e.g. unique links or email addresses), as well as encode, decode and convert data (e.g. convert HTML to plain text, or binary to Base64).

Other kinds of operations focus on finding, renaming, copying, moving, deleting, backing up, joining, splitting, encrypting and decrypting files, as well as setting file attributes and computing checksums. Furthermore, you can work with lines of text, like trimming all lines, sorting them in ascending or descending order, adding line numbers, or removing line breaks.

Monitor files to create automatic actions

Additional features are implemented for converting text case (e.g. capitalize all or specific text, first letters of every word, all HTML tags), processing binary data (e.g. insert or replace bytes from file), removing duplicates from lists and reversing the order of items, as well as changing attribute values from specific HTML/XML tags, among others.

The pending files can be filtered by name and type. Plus, tasks built with Batch File Manager can be automated by creating a watchlist, scheduled time, and other triggers, such as system startup or logon, idle state, or application launch.

Evaluation and conclusion

Batch File Manager is certainly comprehensive, packing more features than we expected. Naturally, it takes a while to get familiarized with the environment (there’s also a help manual and online tutorial available). However, once you get the hang of it, you can put together repetitive tasks, similar to recording macros to simplify your workload.

Choose Processing Mode and Select Files

Batch File Manager can process files in 3 distinct modes:

  • Manual Mode – files are selected for processing, which is then started manually by clicking on the Start button
  • Automatic / Background Mode – “monitors” are setup that scan specified folders for either existingnew, or modified files matching criteria, which are then automatically processed once the program starts “monitoring”
  • Scheduled / Triggered Mode – processing is performed by processing jobs that can run on schedule or be started on specified events

In Manual mode files for processing can be selected and added to the processing list in multiple ways:

  • One by one or in groups
  • All from a given directory
  • Recursive searching for files with names matching a pattern
  • Drag & drop from Windows Explorer
  • Paste from clipboard, paste paths
  • Import from text-based file containing paths
  • Right-clicking on selected files or folder in Windows Explorer

    Multi-file management utility for PC

Multiple File Manager is a free and open-source utility for desktop that was created by an indie developer named Dhany Nurdiansyah. It is a file manager program that helps users manage multiple files at the same time. This tool helps them perform tasks such as batch file renaming and deletion.

Other apps like Q-Dir and Total Commander provide an alternative file explorer program to the built-in ones found on desktop operating systems. Multiple File Manager is slightly different in that it simply focuses on two main functions: lettings users delete and rename multiple files in an easy and convenient way.

How do I use Multiple File Manager?

Multiple File Manager features a clean and simple user interface. When you first open the tool, you can click on the browse button right away to set a folder where your files are located. A list of files will be shown to you and you can select all the files that you need to manage just by clicking on them one by one.

Once done, refer to the Action drop-down menu to select what you want to do. For renaming options, you choose to deletereplace, or insert names in your files. Meanwhile, you get two options for deletion, which either delete or duplicate a file. Click on the Go button and a window will pop up that corresponds to the action that you chose.

Multiple File Manager is easy and straightforward to use, but some things could use improvements, though. For one, it does not show sub-folders, thus you will have to use the browse button again to select files located on another folder. Another is that there are no prompts or notifications if your changes were successfully applied or not.

A handy batch file management utility

Overall, Multiple File Manager is a useful program if you need to rename or delete multiple batches of files at the same time. It’s fast, lightweight, and easy to use. It will not serve as a replacement to your existing file explorer app, but for what it is meant to be used for, it works quite well.
