Versatility distinguishes A-ToolBar from its competitors. We were impressed firstly by the program’s low-key personality. It doesn’t hype its parent, the Metaeureka.com search service, nor does it install adware. The package is extensive, but the primary tools are an Internet search and a pop-up blocker. Through Internet Explorer, A-ToolBar offers metasearching of the Web’s popular search engines, and it allows you to add any other search site. As for the pop-up stopper, it eliminates the usual ad windows but, alas, is powerless against stronger foes such as floating banners. The entire toolset is available through a compact bar at the bottom of the screen. Though you can rearrange buttons, you cannot remove those you don’t use, but the program only asks for 2MB of system memory. We’d recommend this handy browser companion to active Web surfers.
